Here Comes the Sun – Summer Holiday Ideas for 2012

I found myself absent minded – singing ‘Here Comes the Sun’ this morning; no I’m not mad and neither is it sunny and nor does it look like it might be on its way.  Looking out of my kitchen window right now is it grey and miserable and far from the glorious sunny day that I see in my mind’s eye.  So why am I still humming the tune?  Well I have just booked our cruise and stay holiday and we will be heading out to the good old U S of A in just a few short months’ time.  After finally deciding that we were going to try the cruise and stay option this year I wanted to get it all booked and sorted before we have had a chance to change our minds, because we do that a lot.  We have a tendency to say we are going to do one thing and then change our plans at the last-minute.

A Hard Decision to Make

It is always hard trying to decide when to spend our two glorious work free weeks of the year.  We thought about villas, hotels, cruises and all kinds of variations on a theme.  I think it was the cruise option that swayed the final decision making though.  We have both always wanted to go on a cruise.

The fact that there have been a couple of freak cruising incidents so far this year weren’t enough to put us off either, we know we are going to be in capable and experienced hands while we are afloat, and let’s face it you only live once and you shouldn’t be afraid to try new things.  So the decision was made and I booked everything this morning, all we need to do now is sort out all of the peripherals like clothes, spending money and of course finding the passports which always seem to have been moved from their usual safe place.

No Going Back

I’m quite excited; I don’t know if you can tell?  As soon as the arrangements are definite and things have been paid for I really start looking forward to our holiday.  I always make sure that I have someone on hand to look after the house and water the plants, transport to the airport is always arranged in plenty of time and I have list upon list of things that need doing before we go, plus another list of this that need doing just before we leave, and then another for when we get back.

Yes, I know it’s a little over the top, but that’s just me.  I simply can’t function without my daily lists, I’ve been doing it for years and I can’t see me changing any time soon.  There is something about ticking a tack of a list that makes it final, one more thing out of the way before I can really relax and let my hair down.  We are so looking forward to our holidays in 2012 that everything else seems to have taken a back seat, though I suppose it’s good to have something to look forward to, and something to work towards, it will make the time until we leave go by just that little bit more quickly.
